Here we are then end of another year. It started off slow but looking back it went on to produce some crackers. This mix has got more layering than a Toni & Guy salon on a Saturday afternoon. Mix starts off with a release from Demarkus Lewis "Time To Go", a nice little number to get us in the mood. Next is the first of two tracks from Soul Renegades, who I'll be honest I hadn't heard of until last month with their excellent remix of "Song For Sharma". This first track from the Common Occupation E.P. "Kiss The World" has a nice deep bass and haunting vocals. We then start with the layers. First it's Aki Bergens dub mix of "I'll Let It" from back in August. Over that we then have N'Dinga Gabas mix of "Work It" from the same month. Neither track had enough to make it into a mix in their own right, but mixed together they go as well as lemon and lime. The layering continues as "Californication" by Jose Burgos back in April is introduced. Over that we then have "E79" by Kink again from April. Same story here, one track has great beats and brass, the other a killer vibe but too sparse to fit in a mix. Together they sound fresh, deep, chunky and superb. The last track to join the salad is Frankie Felicianos mix of "Happy Endings". This track grows on you everytime you hear it, everyone in our house now sings along. We then loosen off for a couple of tracks and get down to some old fashioned soulful vocal house with Sean McCabes mix of "God Created Woman", and Nick Moss (Groove Assassins) quality mix of "Call On Me". Time to start turning the screw again and we do that by going gospel, Baltimore gospel courtesy of Spen (who else) with "And Be Glad In It". We then make a very quick stop at the disco hall for "Born Again" by JJK from back in October. Peven Everret turns up the heat as always with "Inspiration", a track that has been looking for a home since September. We come flying out of that and straight into another Timmy Regisford track "At The Club". This track is huge and the original is fantastic, but to transition I used the beats from "The Bomb" and the thing is, the two together take it to another level. Those "Air Macks" are the business and just make you go that little more crazy. Things stay very tight with the introduction of "Put Off". This is my find for the month, has a totally different feel to everything else on the mix and at first sounds like the we have let up on the gas. However when that piano break kicks in you realise we are still belting along in the same direction. Earnshaw is up next with a chunky mother "Hold On". The next track is the only classic on the mix and is from 91. I've been trying to drop "The Happy Song" since May and you'll hear why. The piano is just vintage house from that era. I could listen to it all day. We do ease up for the last two tracks. "I Remember" is the second track from the Soul Renegades and is a peach. The final track is as laid back as you can get. "Abigail" has a gentle haunting feel to it, and offers the perfect opportunity to reflect on the year that was. Thanks again to everyone for your support this year.
